The tweet mentions that the 5G variant of the Mi Mix 3 is coming soon and, for now, the 5G also stands for the Snapdragon 855, as it’s the SoC that can be paired with Qualcomm’s 5G modem. However, as we mentioned earlier, the Mi Mix 3 is still fresh out of the oven, replacing it so soon isn’t very logical, despite the significant updates it can have.

Another likely candidate for the first Snapdragon 855 among Xiaomi phones is the Mi 9. Its predecessor, the Mi 8, came out in June 2018, making the Mi 9 a top suspect for the February 24 event. Perhaps that was the reason why the tweet was deleted.

Anyway, we’ll see a new FlagShip from Xiaomi in just over a month. The question is, will this new device come with 5G in the base model? With the premium price that comes with the 5G modem, Xiaomi may have a hard time maintaining the affordable prices it’s been known for.
