Android phone reboots by itself… randomly. While this is a solid performing phone, there are instances where certain issues can occur which we will address today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series, we’ll tackle the problem of an Android phone rebooting itself… randomly.

The guide can be applied to all phones of all brands, such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, LG, Sony and others. The main cause for a phone to reboot itself are conflicts within its software which are usually called software glitches.

Android phone restarts by itself

Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this issue with the phone rebooting by itself.

1. Try restarting your phone

Press the power button for a few seconds, then tap the option to turn off. After a few seconds, press the power button again until the device turns off. If the device is locked, you will need to press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. The phone should restart after a while. Check if the problem persists even after a complete restart of the phone.

2. Boot your phone in safe mode

When the phone starts up in this mode is only allowed to run pre-installed apps. This makes it easy to check if a downloaded app is causing the problem with your Android phone rebooting itself… randomly. Follow these steps to boot your phone in Safe Mode.

• With the device powered on, press and hold the Power button until the Power Off message appears, then release the button.
• Tap and hold the Shut Down option until the Reboot to Safe Mode prompt appears.
• Tap OK to confirm. Your phone will now restart.

You can also boot your phone in safe mode by following the steps listed below.

• Press and hold the power button until the menu options appear.
• Tap Power Off from the options provided.
• Allow the device to turn off for a few seconds.
• Then press and hold the power button until the Google logo appears. then release the button.
• With the Google logo still on the screen, press and hold the Volume Down button.
• When you see the Safe Mode label in the lower left corner of the unlock screen, release the button.

Check if the problem occurs in this mode. If not, it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what this app is and uninstall it.

3. Wipe the cache partition of the phone from recovery mode

This will erase the damaged files and data that could be causing the problem from your phone. Your personal data will not be deleted during this procedure. So here’s how to clear the cache of an Android device.

• Turn the phone off.
• Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time until the logo appears and the phone vibrates.
• Release the power button but hold the volume down button until the recovery mode screen appears.
• Press the power button to restart your device in recovery mode.
• Use the Volume button to highlight Wipe Cache Partition, then press the Power button to confirm your selection.
• Press the Volume Down button to highlight the Erase All User Data option, then press the Power button to confirm your selection.
• Wait until the device clears all cache or temporary data from the system partition.
• Then press the Volume Down button to highlight the Reboot system now option.
• Press the power button to confirm your selection.

4. If your Android phone reboots by itself, do a factory reset

If the problem still persists at this point, you will need to restore your phone to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before performing this step. Once you’re ready, follow these steps to do a factory reset or master reset on your Android device.

• Turn the phone off.
• Press and hold the power and volume down buttons until bootloader mode appears, then release. It is represented by an Android bot image with the Start label at the top.
• Press the Volume Down button to select the recovery mode, then press the Power button to confirm your selection. After doing that, the phone will momentarily flash on the Google home screen, then reboot into recovery mode.
• When you see the image of the Android bot with an exclamation point inside a red triangle labeled No Command below, press and hold the power button.
• Press the Volume Up button once, then release the Power button.
• Use the Volume button to select the Wipe Data / Factory Reset option from the Android Recovery screen.
• Select Yes to confirm.
• Wait for the factory reset process to complete.
• Select Reboot system now.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you will need to take your phone to a service center and have it repaired as the problem with your phone always restarting is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component.
