When Apple launched the first iPhone in 2007, there was no App Store and, of course, there were no third-party software. The opening to external developers was announced in 2008, when the App Store was introduced with 500 applications (which for the time seemed an exceptional number).

The social impact was enormous, so much so that Apple adopted the slogan There’s an app for that (which also became a registered trademark) and today there are more one and a half million apps on the App Store.
