Capcom – 4 out of 5 games are taken in digital form
The Japanese publisher has an exceptionally high rate of digital distribution, aiming to reach 90 percent.
- 80 percent of the games sold by Capcom are digital
- Their goal is to reach 90 percent
The coronavirus epidemic and related measures have significantly accelerated the transition to digital distribution, with almost all publishers reporting that scissors are opening up at an accelerated pace between digital and in-store sales. And Capcom is one of the best examples of this, who said in a recent report to shareholders that currently only 20 percent of sales come from boxed toys.
Moreover, the Japanese publisher is not satisfied with this, as their goal is to achieve a 90 percent share of digital sales. However, they stressed that they do not plan to leave boxed games completely behind, as there are buyers who prefer disc games.
Capcom, by the way, predicted a 75 percent rate earlier by 2020, which is a good indication that the process is accelerating compared to expectations.
