CRM applications planned on Windows Azure
As a provider of commercial open source customer relationship management (CRM) software, Sugar CRM plans to offer its applications on Windows Azure in the future. This should help customers and value-added resellers benefit from the real-time scalability, high availability and on-demand infrastructure of the Microsoft Corp. cloud platform. for web applications and services.
Windows Azure is an Internet-scale cloud services platform hosted in Microsoft data centers. It offers an operating system and a range of developer services that can be used individually or in combination. “With Windows Azure, Microsoft has created a cloud computing platform that goes far beyond the simple hosted infrastructure that is usually offered today,” explains Larry Augustin, CEO of Sugar CRM. This enables value-added resellers to develop and implement tailor-made solutions for customers around the world.
This new service is another key component of the “Sugar Open Cloud”. With the cloud strategy, the provider is pursuing the goal of offering a simple and inexpensive CRM regardless of location and tailored to the needs of the customer. Sugar on Windows Azure combines the CRM application with a secure cloud computing platform, whereby the support of the Microsoft Azure platform from PHP was decisive for the short implementation time. In addition, Windows Azure offers a scalable infrastructure with a “pay-as-you-go price model” in which customers do not have to buy and maintain technology, but pay for the service based on consumption.
Sugar CRM offers CRM cloud applications that could run in any computing environment. The reason for this is that customers want control and flexibility in managing their CRM applications. First generation CRM software as a service (SaaS) providers could not offer this. Customers would run the risk of being tied to monolithic and inflexible services.
