The Board of Management of Daimler AG has given the go-ahead for expanding the Mercedes-Benz world. In May 2009, Daimler acquired a designated area from the city in Stuttgart’s Neckarpark. The design of the usage concept has been temporarily postponed due to the macroeconomic situation, the car company is now explaining. The concrete planning would now be resumed and the tender for an architecture competition would be prepared in close coordination with the city of Stuttgart.

Daimler AG announced that one of the cornerstones of the concept was “the interactive and tangible presentation of research and future topics relating to the automobile” for a broad, international audience. Genius is Daimler’s young knowledge community and will be found on the expansion area as well as the Classic Center with its workshop.

In addition, “interesting and fascinating content from the world’s outstanding corporate archive” and exhibits from Daimler’s “unique vehicle collection” are to be integrated. The same applies to parts of the art collection that are to be made permanently accessible to the public.

Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, is quoted as follows: “The great tradition of the brand and the current product portfolio of Mercedes-Benz can already be experienced in a special way through the museum and our branch. We now want to add further attractions to this strong presence of the Mercedes-Benz world and also give an outlook on the future of the automobile Contribution to making the Neckar Park more attractive ”.

The current project plan provides for an architecture competition to be held from the beginning of 2012. Further planning and a specific schedule for this will be worked out together with the responsible bodies and the Stuttgart city council. The general public should also be involved.
