Electric vehicle manufacturer relies on new business model for sales
The American company Tesla Motors has opened a flagship store in Munich as the only car manufacturer in the world that produces and sells electric vehicles suitable for motorway traffic. According to a report in the Zukunftsletter, the sales area is almost 800 square meters and is more of a lounge than a car dealership.
After that, the company took inspiration for the showrooms from Apple and Starbucks. Since customers should feel as if they were in a second home in the shop, they would not only be offered the opportunity to find out more about Tesla or to arrange test drives, but also to surf the Internet and drink coffee free of charge. However, the new contact point is primarily intended to serve the growing number of customers from the EU. “The roadster is fast becoming the vehicle of choice for discerning Europeans. Many of our customers are die-hard enthusiasts of European sports cars who switch to roadsters out of concern about climate change and the dangers of reliance on foreign oil, ”says Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
The roadster is not only marketed as an eco-car, but also with the indication that it can accelerate from 0 to 100 faster than a Porsche. The 248 hp engine would only need 3.9 seconds for this and should last 400 kilometers with a charged battery. Tesla is therefore relying on eco paired with design, technology and Munich cosiness. So far, around 700 roadsters have been delivered to customers. Thanks to the first electric sedan, which Tesla plans to bring to market in early 2011, the number is set to increase dramatically.
