GeForce card naming scheme is changing

When the GeForce 9000 series got a successor, NVIDIA started with a new naming convention: GTX 260 and GTX 280. This will probably be continued consistently, even retroactively.

There will be a separation in high-end, performance and mainstream cards. High-end cards would start with GTX, performance with GT and mainstream with GS. Soon, October 15, there might be the GT206 and GT212 cards announced, so performance cards. Nothing further is known about these cards.

Around that time, it seems that the GeForce 8000 cards will be phased out. More surprisingly, the GeForce 9000 series will probably also be given the new name. The cards would therefore be a name change from, for example, 9400GT and 9800GTX+ to cards such as the G100, GT120, GT150, etc.

The new name should make the ambiguity that currently exists a thing of the past.
