Google Play Store may introduce alerts for offers, New & Premium categories

Some recent changes to the Play Store suggest that Google is experimenting with some new features that may be introduced soon on the platform.

The first resource under test offers users the opportunity to receive the latest offers and updates from the Play Store.

If they enable the feature, Google will likely send notifications about expected apps and games, as well as discounts on games, apps, or in-app purchases.

The functionality is currently only presented to a limited number of users with a pop-up asking if they want to activate, as you can see in the images below.

The second feature concerns the “New” and “Premium” categories that are added to the navigation bar at the top of the Play Store. The “New” category includes recently published apps as well as new apps and games that offer pre-registration, while the “Premium” category includes paid apps and games.

These updates appear to be two independent updates, as some users received the update in relation to the offers, while others received the one marked “New” and “Premium”.

It is worth noting that the Play Store posted revenue growth of 27% in 2018, reporting a better result than the Apple App Store.
