You can call it “fake news” in English or, even better, “hoax” in Italian, but the substance is still the same: the new chain of Sant’Antonio that is running these days on Facebook it is none other than one scam, nor one of the best ones seen recently.
Let’s start with the news. It all started yesterday, 1 August 2018, when a strange message was published on Mark Zuckerberg’s social network, relaunched in groups and pages of various kinds and then spread to other messaging channels. The text of the post is as follows, with some variations depending on the source:
Hello everyone! A few days ago there was an advertisement on television that allowed you to win a Samsung s9 64GB for only € 0 by answering 4 questions correctly!
I then discovered that all you have to do is enter the code “sams9italia” on Google, click on the first link in the results and read this article to find out more. It’s very simple!
Yesterday I received a package in the mail that contained the new Samsung S9!
Better hurry, the promotion is until tomorrow!
The post is very simple and direct, as often happens with scams of this kind: the great opportunity to grab a shiny new Samsung Galaxy S9 and all completely free it is certainly very tempting for the most inexperienced.
The peculiarity of this message is that, instead of providing a direct link to the site, there are quick instructions on how to find the web page where to insert this elusive code sams9italia. This has a double effect for the success of this “promotional campaign”: on the one hand the message seems truly genuine, since it does not include addresses but seems to have been written by a friend for a friend; on the other hand, the absence of links avoid spam checks social media and messaging apps, preventing the message from being blocked by algorithms.

The problem is that the scam itself is twofold. In addition to not giving any Galaxy S9 to those who go to the site and complete the proposed questionnaire, there is the risk of getting a nice malware on your system, which is automatically installed on the victim’s smartphone or PC.
If you have already stumbled upon this scam and searched for the site indicated by the message, we recommend that you do one scan with good software antivirus on your smartphone or PC, in order to make sure that it is not infected.
The moral of this story is, therefore, always the same: once again we are faced with a very bad hoax that you absolutely must not believe, just as you must not fall into the pitfalls of those who insistently want to give you products, offers or services of another kind.
