If you are here it is because your child’s school has probably sent you a tuition payment form asking you to use the system I pay online, but you’ve never heard of it. I guessed it, right? Then let me quickly explain what this service is made available by Miur (Ministry of University and Research) and what differentiates it from pagoPA.
Well, Pago in Rete is the platform created by the Ministry of Education to allow all families to make electronic payments, whether they are contributions, student insurance, canteen, educational trips or even voluntary contributions through pagoPA, which is an electronic payment management system developed by the Agency for Digital Italy (AGID) to make payments to the Public Administration simpler and more transparent.
Thanks to the electronic tracking, you can also access your personal page and check the payment receipts at any time, downloading the documents for tax purposes. Interesting, right? Then let me show you in detail how to use Pago on the Net. To continue, you will only need a SPID digital identity, the CIE (Electronic Identity Card) or, alternatively, an eIDAS (i.e. a digital identity issued by another European country).

How I pay on the Miur Network
As mentioned in the introduction of this tutorial, the I pay online it can be used both by families for school-related payments, and by individual citizens to make payments to the Ministry of Education. However, it is not enough to go to the official website to immediately go to the payment operations: you need to take a few more steps, as indicated below.
How Pago in Rete works: registration and access
The Pago in Rete access system has been modified starting from October 2021, which previously owned username And password, duly registered through the Ministry of Education website, can no longer use those credentials unless they belong to some particular categories: administrative staff, school staff, students who need to access specific services and SIDI-enabled users.
If you do not fall into any of the above categories, you cannot register as before and you will need to log in using it SPID or the THERE IS.
To give you a practical example, if you use the SPID, click on the button Log in with SPID and, in the drop-down menu that opens, select the service with which you created your digital identity (eg. PosteID).
After choosing the service, log in with the SPID credentials by entering username And password or – if your provider allows it – by framing the QR Code with the appropriate smartphone application. Logging in with SPID requires further verification as it has a double level of security, so the system will ask you to log in via notification on the provider app or a temporary PIN received via app or SMS. In any case, therefore, you will also have to use the app on a smartphone.
On the next screen you will be able to choose Go to Pago in Rete Schools or Go to Pago in Rete MI. By clicking on the first button you can make voluntary payments, manage the consents for receiving notifications about transactions and view the payments to be made.
The second button, on the other hand, returns exclusively to a search form to filter payments, which can be in status: Executable, Paid, Waiting for receipt or Canceled.
To use the internal search system, just select the item you prefer from the drop-down menu and then press the button Near, this way all payments in that category will be displayed at the bottom.
How Pago in Rete works: voluntary payments
In the section View payments you have no debt towards the Ministry of Education but still want to make a voluntary payment to a school in your region? Nothing simpler.
From the Pago in Rete home page, after logging in as explained above, you can select various items from the navigation bar at the top: click on the one relating to voluntary payments.
On the next page you can search for the school, either by region be by means of a mechanographic code. The second is a unique code that identifies schools on the Italian territory: if you do not have the identification and do not want to waste time using the Miur system called The School in Clear, then use the search by region.
Click on the drop-down menu under the heading region and choose the one in which you reside, then adding the province and the common. These three pieces of information will suffice to return a list of all the schools that adhere to pagoPA, with the mechanographic code, name and address. By browsing the list you can then easily identify the one to which to make the payment. When you have found the school you are looking for, click on magnifying glass under the column Actions.
The next screen shows the school data again but in addition you will find the information on the payment such as the reason, which can be a school contribution, the beneficiary, or the school, the due date for payment, the amount and, under the column Actions the deposit button. After verifying that all information is correct, press it to access the payment form.
To continue you must enter the data of the pupil or who is making the payment, then write the fiscal Code, the first name and the surname, adding in the box Note additional details if you deem it necessary. Double-check that the data is correct and then click on Make the payment lower left.
Now you have two options, if you want to make the online payment click on Proceed with immediate payment, if you prefer to go with the paper document to a retailer, a tobacconist or ATM of participating banks, click on Download payment document. By selecting the first item, the system will ask you how you intend to pay, you can choose between Credit / debit card, Bank account or Other payment methods (that include PayPal And Satispay).
If you choose Credit / debit card, you will have to enter all the card details, then the name and surname of the holder, the credit card number, the expiry date and the verification code that you find on the back of the card. Once you have entered the data, click on Keep it going to complete the transaction (depending on your banking settings you may need to perform additional two-factor verification procedures).
By clicking on Bank account you will have to choose the bank with which you have the account and, if it does not appear in the list provided, you can click on the button below Can’t find your bank?, to receive assistance in this regard.
If your choice fell on Other payment methods, you will find a list of alternative methods, such as Satispay (available as an app for Android and iPhone), PayPal And Pay ATM. Just select the one you prefer to continue the payment procedure on the chosen system. Be careful though, because in some cases there may be surcharges, as in the case of PayPal where there is a commission to be paid. The maximum amount due in these cases is indicated directly under the service logo.
After selection, you will be redirected to a summary page with all the payment details and the amount due. Now there is nothing left to do but click on the button Confirm your payment below to conclude the operation.
How Pago in Rete works: competition
The Pago in Rete system can also be used to make payments for secretarial rights, which are essential when registering for a competition held by the Ministry of Education. The procedure, however, is not always available on the official website but is subject to calls issued by the Miur.
To verify its presence, you can log in using the SPID credentials as I showed you in the previous paragraphs and, once you have entered your Reserved Area, you can see all the service communications, including ordinary and extraordinary competitions.
