When we get a link to a Zoom meeting, we click on it without checking our account. Imagine attending your office meeting on Zoom with your child’s account. It sounds strange, but it can be awkward in formal meetings. To easily fix such a gaffe, you can change your name in Zoom without leaving the meeting. How to change the profile name in Zoom on PC
You can change the name before joining a Zoom or meeting during a meeting. Let’s see the different ways.
Method 1: change the name to zoom for all meetings
To change your name for all meetings, follow these steps:
Step 1: launch the Zoom app on your computer.
Step 2: do click the profile picture icon at the top. Select My Profile from the menu. A web page will open and take you to the Zoom account settings. Log in with your Zoom account details.
Suggestion: if you don’t see My Profile, go to Settings> Profile> Edit Profile.
Step 3: in the Personal section from the left sidebar in the Zoom account settings, go to Profile. Click the Edit button next to your name and enter a new name. Save the changes using the Save button.
Note: the name will be changed for the current meeting only using the following two methods.
Method 2: change the name in zoom before joining a meeting
Without clicking the Zoom Meeting link, open the Zoom app and click the Join button.
The Join Meeting box will open. You will see two boxes. The first will have to enter the meeting ID and the second will have to enter the display name. Enter your name in the second box. You will need to manually enter the meeting ID.
Suggestion: if this method fails, log out of the Zoom app, then click the Join button.
Method 3: change the name to zoom during a meeting
If you want to change your name after joining a meeting, you don’t need to disconnect the call to change your name. Just click the Participants icon on the meeting screen.
A sidebar will open. Hover over your name and click More. Then choose Rename. Enter a new name.
Alternatively, right-click on the video preview and select Rename from the menu.
How to change name in zoom on Android, iPhone and iPad
Like a computer, the Zoom name on mobile devices can be changed before or during a meeting. Here are several ways to do this.
Method 1: change the zoom name on mobile for all meetings
To change the name of all meetings before joining a meeting, follow these steps:
Step 1: launch the Zoom app. Tap Settings at the bottom. Tap your name at the top.
Step 2: Tap Display Name and change the name on the next screen.
Method 2: change the name in zoom on mobile before joining the meeting
To change the name for a single meeting only, tap the Join button on the Zoom app home screen. Enter your name in the Name box.
Method 3: change the zoom name during the meeting
Step 1: after joining a meeting, tap the Attendees tab at the bottom of the Zoom app.
Step 2: tap your name and choose Rename from the menu.
Bonus tip 1: how to change the participant’s name in zoom
You can change someone else’s name in the Zoom meeting if you are the organizer. To do this on PC, join a meeting. Click the Attendees tab, then click the attendee’s name. Press the More button followed by Rename. Alternatively, right-click the participant’s video and choose Rename.
Bonus tip 2: Prevent attendees from renaming themselves
Many people, especially children, keep changing their names during Zoom meetings. If this bothers you as a host, you can prevent attendees from renaming themselves in meetings. For this, open the Zoom account settings from us04web.zoom.us/profile/setting. Go to Settings from the left panel. Then click In Meeting (Basic).
Scroll down and turn off the switch next to the “Allow attendees to rename themselves” option.
Solution: Unable to change the name in zoom
If it’s not possible change the name displayed on Zoom using the methods above, you need to edit it directly from the Zoom website. For this, open the Zoom from account settings us04web.zoom.us/profile. Log in with your Zoom account. Click Profile from the left sidebar. Then, click Edit next to your name and add a new name.
