Taking a look at your friend’s Android smartphone, you noticed the presence of an application that you have never seen wandering through the “meanders” of the Google Play Store. Intrigued by the novelty, you therefore asked for explanations and your friend explained to you that he found the app in question by downloading the relative APK file from the Internet. However, now you’d like to know more about it so you can do the same. Given the situation, I am happy to inform you that you have come to the right place, or rather the right guide. In fact, in the following lines I will go to show you everything that needs to be done to be able to download APK.

Before showing you, step by step, how to download the APK, it is good that you clear your mind about it. In case you don’t know, APK files are the packages that contain all the application files for Android, similar to .apps on Mac or .exe on Windows. APK files can be downloaded from any website and stored offline to have your favorite apps always at hand. It is therefore a further solution to download and install applications on Android. Currently the fastest and safest way to download new applications for your Android device is undoubtedly to resort to the Google Play Store. Alternatively, you can turn to third-party stores, which are extremely simple to use but do not have the same level of reliability as the Play Store, or to APK files.

Having clarified this, if you are therefore actually interested in finding out how to proceed in order to download the APK, I suggest you grab your Android device, take a few minutes of free time and concentrate carefully on reading this tutorial. I am sure that in the end you will be able to tell yourself more than satisfied that you were able to download the APK and that you will also be ready to say that doing this was actually a real breeze. Ready? Yes? Very well, then let’s get started.

The first step you need to take to be able to download APK is to remove the protection present on Android and which by default blocks the installation of apps from sources outside the Google Play Store. This is a fundamental step since if it is not performed after downloading the APK it will not be possible to install the apps in question.

To do this, press the icon Settings present on the Android home screen, then tap on the tab General and then select the item Safety from the menu that appears. At this point, scroll the screen that opens until you find the item Unknown sources then put the check mark next to the option Allow installation of applications from trusted and unknown sources and tap on OK.

Now that you have taken steps to enable on your device the possibility of installing apps from outside the Google Play Store, there is another operation that I think it is a good and right thing to do: download an antivirus in order to protect yourself from any system security threats that may arise from the use of third party apps. If you do not know which antivirus to install on your device you can consult my free antivirus guide for Android in which I have proceeded to recommend all those that I believe represent the best solutions to protect yourself from cyber threats at no cost for smartphones and tablets based on the system operation of the green robot.

At this point I would say that we are finally there, you can take the real action and then you can download the APK. If you already have clear ideas about the third-party app to download and if you already have the related link, open it directly in the web browser in use on your device and then press the button to download the related APK file attached to the web page that is shown to you.

If, on the other hand, you want to download APKs but don’t know where to find third-party apps, below is a list of what I believe are some of the best Internet sites to do so.

  • TorrApk – It is one of the most popular sites on the Internet to download APKs. The site has no geographical restrictions, offers APK files of free original apps and without modifications and offers only and exclusively safe apps for the user and for the device.
  • APKLeecher – This is an APK download site that allows you to find applications that are not compatible or not available on the Google Play Store. The site integrates an internal search engine to easily find everything you need.
  • AppsApk – This is another famous site for downloading APKs that offers freeware apps that can usually be downloaded from the Google Ply Store.
  • SlideME – This is a portal where you can download APKs of applications and games that are not usually found on Google Play Sore. In order to download the content of interest, however, it is necessary to create a free account.

After connecting to the Internet site through which you can download the APK that interests you most and after identifying a specific app, press the button to download it on your device and wait a few moments for the procedure to be started and completed.

When the download is complete, open the folder Download where you downloaded the APK file, press it on it and run the installation wizard that is shown on the screen by pressing the buttons in sequence Following, Install And end. That’s all! Note that generally the link to the folder Download is present in the menu of Android smartphones and tablets or in the screen where all the apps on the device are collected.

If you can’t find the Download folder you can fix it by installing the free file manager ES File Manager and use the latter to navigate the directory of your device downloads. To download the ES File Manager app, open the Play Store, press the search field located at the top, type eg file manager and presses on the first search result you see in order to access the section of the marketplace dedicated to the app. If you want to speed up the execution of these steps, just press here directly from your Android smartphone or tablet.

Then press the button Install and then on I accept then wait for the app download and installation procedure to start and complete.

Once the download and installation process of ES File Manager is completed, start the app by pressing the icon that has been added to the home screen and then press the item Download located in the left sidebar attached to the application screen that you view and then tap on the APK file you want to open. Then follow the app installation wizard by pressing the buttons in sequence Following, Install And end.

If, on the other hand, you have more files to act on and you want to speed up the procedure by which to download APK and open the aforementioned type of file, I suggest you use the app APK Installer. This is a free application that allows you to open APK files and install them in series, thus avoiding the user having to individually identify and select all the elements on which to act.

If you want to use APK Installer the first thing you need to do is download and install the app. To do this, press the Play Store icon on your device, then press the search field attached to the screen that will open, type apk installer and tap on the first result. If you want to speed up the execution of these steps, just press here directly from your Android smartphone or tablet.

Then press the button Install and then on I accept then wait for the app download and installation procedure to start and complete.

After downloading and installing the application, press the APK Installer icon that has been added to the home screen of your device, wait for the application screen to be visible and then tap on Install APKs.

On the screen that will open at this point, put a check mark next to the icons of the APK packages you want to install and then press the green button Install selected that you find located at the bottom right.

Once this is done, the wizard will start automatically for the installation of all the selected apps. To complete the installation procedure of the various apps, just press the buttons in sequence Following, Install And end.

Note: Even if coming from a source other than the classic Google Play Store, the new applications installed after downloading the APK will be accessible, as usual, directly from the classic Android screen where all the apps available on the device are collected.
