How to pair an Xbox One / PS4 controller with Apple TV, iPhone or iPad

Good news for Apple and gaming fans. Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad can be used directly with Xbox One or PlayStation Dualshock 4 controllers. Bluetooth support for both controllers is included with tvOS 13, iOS 13, and iPadOS. After your devices are updated, the existing driver is combined for use in compatible apps and games in Settings.

The addition of third-party driver support means Apple TV owners are no longer limited to MFI drivers. To set up an Xbox or PS 4 controller to the Apple device, follow these steps to pair them:

Xbox One Controller

  1. Press the Xbox button to turn on the controller
  2. Press and hold the Connect button on the top of the controller for a few seconds
  3. Find the Xbox Wireless Controller to the Bluetooth settings of the Apple TV, iPhone or iPad
  4. Select the controller you want to link

PlayStation 4 controller

  1. Press and hold the PS and Share buttons on the controller
  2. The controller light will begin to flash
  3. Look for DualShock 4 to Apple TV, iPhone or iPad Bluetooth settings
  4. Select the controller you want to link
