For put a WhatsApp audio as a ringtone on Android, the first thing you need to do is locate the file of your interest and copy it to the ringtones folder. Open therefore Whatsapp, select the tab Chat, open the conversation which contains the audio of your interest and press on first name of the person or group, at the top of the screen.
In the new screen that appears, tap the word Media, links and documents, select the tab Average, tap onpreview of the audio file you want to use as a ringtone and wait for it to start playing.
If it’s the correct file, tap the i button three dots vertically located at the top right, select the option Share from the menu that opens and choose to open the file manager in use on your device, so as to copy the audio into the ringtones folder (usually the one named Ringtones).
If your smartphone does not already have a “standard” file manager, you can use the free app Google files, which is what I used to write this passage. You can download it from the relevant section of the Play Store or if you are using a device on which this is not present (e.g. a Huawei smartphone with AppGallery), you can rely on one alternative store, as I explained to you here.
If you want to use voice messages as a ringtone, you can succeed in your intent by acting outside the WhatsApp app, using the file manager. So, open the latter and tap on the item Internal memory that you find below.
Afterward, open the folder Whatsapp, then that Average and then go to the folder WhatsApp Voice Notes (or the folder WhatsApp Audio, if you want to select an audio file received as an attachment).
At this point, select the folder Private (which is the one that contains the received audio), locate the file of your interest, tap on arrow down that you find in its correspondence and select, from the menu that appears, the item Copy to, to copy the file to the ringtone folder.
If before opening or copying the file you want to play it, in order to make sure who is the element that really interests you, tap on its icon. If you then deem it appropriate, you can also assign a new name to the file by pressing on arrow down next to it and choosing the option Rename from the menu that appears.
If by proceeding in this second way you cannot find the audio files you are interested in on the device memory, it is because you have not previously enabled automatic file download in the WhatsApp settings (in the section Settings> Data usage and storage> Automatic media download).
To fix this, locate the audio files of your interest in the WhatsApp conversation and tap on down arrow that you find next to us, in order to download it.

Next, select the audio files of WhatsApp from there.
Keep in mind that in order to be used correctly as a ringtone, an audio file must have an overall length of 30-40 seconds. To use it, download it from the Play Store or from alternative stores.
Next, launch Ringtone Maker, select the audio files of WhatsApp from the device memory, tap the button (…) that you find next to the title of the same and choose the option Edit from the menu that appears. Finally, indicate that you intend to save the trimmed audio file as ringtone, through the menu that appears, then type the first name you want to assign it, tap the button Save and choose to set it as default ringtone. For more details, you can read my guide on how to change ringtone.
