How to restore WhatsApp on HUAWEI
You are not a very technological type, so much so that you often get help from some friend or relative when it comes to smartphones or other things. Unfortunately this time you have to do it all by yourself and you are wondering how to restore WhatsApp on HUAWEI.
In this case, a distinction must be made between HUAWEI smartphones equipped with Google services (usually all models released before 2019) and HUAWEI smartphones equipped with HMS, i.e. the HUAWEI services, released from 2020 onwards. Depending on the model you have, the method of installing WhatsApp changes, but don’t worry, I’ll show you how to do it in both cases.
If you are in possession of one HUAWEI smartphone equipped with Google services, you have to associate lo same Google account you used on your previous smartphone (the one on which WhatsApp is installed) and you need to install the famous messaging app on the new device.
First, then, open the Play Store on your new HUAWEI and, if you have not logged in with your Google account, tap the button Log in. On the next screen, enter email address And password of your account and tap the button I accept: in a few seconds the account will be added to your device and you will be ready to use the Play Store.
In case you had already entered your Google account during the initial configuration, the Play Store will open on its home screen: use the search bar at the top, type “Whatsapp” and tap on the icon magnifying glass to start the search. In a few seconds a list of apps will be loaded, but the first to be listed will be the app you are looking for: to install it, press on its icon (or go directly to one of the download links I gave you earlier, to do first) and click on the button Install.
If, on the other hand, you have a HUAWEI smartphone with Huawei Mobile Services, you will not have the Play Store available, but you will have to use the HUAWEI proprietary store, that is AppGallery. Before starting you need to enter a HUAWEI account on your smartphone, To do this, press on the app Settings, recognizable by a gear icon and tap on the first item in the call list Login with HUAWEI ID. On the next screen, tap the button Use email address, enter your HUAWEI account email and password and tap the button Access.
How do you say? Don’t have a HUAWEI account? Quiet, nothing that can’t be fixed. In this case, just tap on the item Sign in, enter your email and choose an access password (which you will need to enter twice).
Once you have entered your HUAWEI ID, all you have to do is open the app AppGallery and tap the button App present in the bar at the bottom. Now, from the search field at the top, type “Whatsapp” and tap on the first item that is suggested to you in the list or on the button Get. You will be redirected to the official WhatsApp website (the app is not officially present on the AppGallery) where you just need to tap the button Download and then on the button OK from the pop-up that appears on the screen. Wait for the app to be downloaded and, again from the browser, tap the button You open: now all you have to do is tap the button Install at the bottom and wait for the app to be installed.
The procedure illustrated above is valid for all devices with HSM, so by following it you can easily install WhatsApp HUAWEI P40, WhatsApp HUAWEI P40 Lite and on other recent models.
How to restore WhatsApp backup on HUAWEI
You managed to install WhatsApp on your HUAWEI smartphone, but now you would like to understand how to restore WhatsApp backup on HUAWEI. You have absolutely no intention of losing any messages, so you want to be absolutely sure that you don’t lose the backup of your chats.
Before proceeding, however, a clarification is necessary. Depending on the type of HUAWEI you have, equipped with Google services or HMS, you will have to use two different procedures to be able to transfer the WhatsApp backup from one smartphone to another.
Google Drive
Own a new one HUAWEI smartphone equipped with Google services and you want to understand how to restore WhatsApp backup to your new smartphone. In this case you can use the convenient services of backup via Google Drive, in order to do everything in the cloud, without the need for third-party apps.
First of all you need to backup your chats on Google Drive on your old smartphone. Open the app of Whatsapp, tap the button with i three dots at the top right and from the menu that appears tap on the item Settings.
On the Settings screen, tap on the item Chat and, subsequently, on that Backup of chats. Now all you have to do is press on the item Backup to Google Drive, set it to Only when I tap “Back Up” and tap the button Back up. Wait for the backup to complete and move to your new smartphone. If you want to include the video in the backup, check the relevant option (knowing that you will take up much more space on Google Drive and that the backup time will get longer).
Get the new smartphone HUAWEI (always with Google services), open the Whatsapp (which you must have installed following the instructions I gave you before) and tap the button Accept and continue, if necessary.
Now enter your phone number (it must be the same as you used on the old smartphone, so the new HUAWEI phone must have the same SIM) and tap the button Come on: wait for the confirmation SMS to arrive and enter the confirmation code (if it is not filled in automatically).
The app will start looking for a backup and will locate the one recently made on Google Drive: to start the backup restore, all you have to do is press the button Reset and wait for the procedure to complete. You bought one HUAWEI smartphone with HMS, so backing up chats via Google Drive is not an option you can use, as your smartphone does not have support for Google services.
Don’t worry: nothing is lost, because through a third-party app you can easily move the WhatsApp backup from your old smartphone to your new HUAWEI device. The app I recommend you to use is Smart Transfer, available both on the Play Store and on alternative stores for devices without the Play Store: it is free with advertising (bearable). To install it, search for it in your device’s store, press on its icon (or go directly to one of the download links I gave you earlier, to do first) and click on the button Install.
Before proceeding, make sure both smartphones are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Once this is done, open the app on both smartphones and tap the button Continues placed at the bottom.

Now go back to the old smartphone, tap on the icon named WhatsApp backup and tap the button Allow from the pop-up that appears on the screen. After the app has calculated the required space, tap the button Start present at the bottom and on the button OK on the notice that appears on the screen. Now the app will start transferring all chats backup to your new HUAWEI smartphone.
Once the backup transfer is complete, you don’t have to start the WhatsApp app yet on your new HUAWEI smartphone. First it is necessary granting permissions so that the app is able to immediately view the backup present in the internal memory of the device, that is the one you have just transferred. So open the app Settings, recognizable by the icon of a gear, and tap the item twice App. From the list of apps, scroll down until you find the app of Whatsapp and select it. On the next screen, tap on the item Authorizations and then on Archive: now all you have to do is select the item Allow.
After granting permission to access the Archive, you can open the Whatsapp and proceed with its configuration. After entering the number and the verification code, the app will notify you of the presence of a backup: all you have to do is tap the button Allow, to start restoring chats on your new HUAWEI smartphone.
