If there will be a new Star Was: Knights of the Old Republic, it will not be made by BioWare
Kotaku co-worker Jason Schreier says even if there will be a new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, an unknown team is working on it.
- A new Knights of the Old Republic is said to have been made
- A Kotaku employee, however, says new hands are working on it
Rumor erupted in January that EA was working on a rethink of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and even then insiders dared to claim that BioWare was probably not making the game. Well, according to Jason Schreier of Kotaku, the last statement is really true: even if there is a new KotOR, it will not be made by BioWare.
Schreier is said to have been searching for the new KotOR, which has only been rumored so far, but he doesn’t want to say anything specific until he’s 100% sure of things. What he was willing to betray, however, was that even if the project existed, BioWare was not working on it, and EA had nothing to do with it.
Of course, the above lines are also worth treating with reservations, but given the events of recent years, it wouldn’t be surprising if Disney’s confidence in EA had eroded, and the new KotOR didn’t dare entrust it to a team that also had a battered reputation, BioWare. What are the other options? Well, there are plenty. Aspyr, which has previously ported Star Wars games to other consoles (Jedi Knight 2-3 for Switch and PS4), may be working on a KotOR remake / remaster / port.
Nor can it be ruled out that Disney has entered into a separate agreement with Sony or Microsoft to make a game similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man in the Star Wars universe, and that could even be a new KotOR. Unfortunately, there is no certainty, we can only guess. Hopefully Schreier will come up with something specific soon, or maybe Disney himself will make an announcement. A Star Wars game set in the past would even be topical, as the cross-media High Republic project, set 200 years before Ominous Shadows, was recently announced.
