Large retail chains want to do without decoy advertising

In preliminary talks, the representatives of Aldi, Lidl, Rewe and Edeka are said to have declared their willingness to refrain from aggressive advertising campaigns for milk and butter bargains in the future. This is reported by WirtschaftsWoche. Instead, they apparently want to advertise more with regional brands.

This means that the large retail chains would be ready to make concessions before the milk summit with Federal Minister of Agriculture Horst Seehofer in Berlin. The ministry hopes that dispensing with decoy offers could help to defuse the dispute between retailers and farmers that has been smoldering for months. It was not until the end of May that numerous dairy farmers stopped supplying dairies in order to push through higher producer prices.

As a result, the price of drinking milk and butter rose in stores. The farmers complain, however, that they hardly got any of the increases. In order to build up a counterweight to the purchasing power of the retail chains, Seehofer advocates close cooperation between the dairies in sales and has antitrust issues examined. In addition, Seehofer wants to commit those involved to a common commitment to Germany as a production location, according to Berlin.
