New GeForce GTX cards as good as announced

The rumors about the new video cards from NVIDIA are now starting to become reality: they are coming on January 8th.

The GTX 285 and GTX 295 will be launched on that date, both of which are equipped with the 55 nm GT200(b) chip. The GTX 285 is a 240 shader GPU and the successor of the GTX 280. Nothing is known about further specs and prices.

A little more is known about the GTX 295: this will really be the dual GPU card that was previously rumored to have been rumored. The card will be very similar to the 9800 GX2, but with the new GPUs of course. What also remains is GDDR3: the GTX 295 will not yet be equipped with GDDR5. A total of 1792 MB of this can be found on the card, calculated as 2 x 896 MB thanks to the 448-bit memory bus. Both GPUs have 240 shaders for a total of 480. The card will draw a maximum of about 289 Watts. Further specs and prices are not yet known.

More information will no doubt be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
