Can you still contact the Nvidia Shield Portable remember which was presented back in 2013? It was a portable game console based on Android. With the then very powerful Nvidia Tegra 4 quad-core processor and 2 GB of RAM, the portable console should also have appealed to high-end gamers. Although the device was quite convincing, the sales figures weren’t that great. That was obviously mainly due to the rather high price of at least 299 US dollars.
Despite the rather modest sales figures, Nvidia could work on a successor to the portable game console. The first photos of the successor to the Nvidia Shield Portable have now appeared at the American approval authority FCC. This is a very good sign, but by no means a confirmation that Nvidia will bring the device onto the market one day.
To be honest, I’m not sure whether a portable game console can still be a huge success these days. The PlayStation Vita handheld console from Sony also failed to gain acceptance. The PS Vita can still be bought, but it is hardly noticed by Sony either. Let’s see if Nvidia might even present the new Shield Portable at the Mobile World Congress.
