With the new Snapdragon 690, Qualcomm is now offering another SoC that can also be combined with the 5G modem X51 (SA / NSA). With this inexpensive SoC, the new mobile communications standard will definitely be “saloon-friendly”. It is even cheaper to buy than the Snapdragon 765, which is used in the upper middle class.

In terms of performance, the 8-core Snapdragon 690, manufactured using the 8 nm process, is not badly positioned, but consequently cannot compete with the more expensive SoCs of the 7 and 8 series. Compared to the Snapdragon 675, the Snapdragon 690 offers, according to Qualcomm, 20 percent more CPU speed and the graphics unit (GPU) even offers a performance increase of 60 percent.

Also interesting: The Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 now also supports FHD + displays with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. This means that nothing stands in the way of the higher refresh rate even in the “inexpensive” middle class. Furthermore, camera sensors with up to 192 megapixels, HDR videos with 4K @ 30fps and Wi-Fi 6 are supported.
