Apple allows you to return purchased applications and games from the App Store within 14 days from the date of purchase, without giving any reason.

PS I didn’t return Leo’s Fortune! By the way, a great game, the screen with this application is just an example for me 🙂

Apple has introduced a new refund policy for purchased apps, games, books, movies, TV shows and music on the European App Store, iTunes, and the iBooks store. The change of rules applies to European Union countries, including Poland, and we currently have 14 days to return the purchase without giving a specific reason.

Until now, you had to state the reason for the return and Apple had 90 days to process the complaint. Currently, the 14-day ‘App Trial’ period applies to all purchases except gift cards. This means that the smarter ones will, for example, play games for 14 days and then return them. This is a disadvantage for developers who will be charged for the return operation.

Apple says it will process refunds 5-7 business days after receiving the cancellation notification.

The current return policy will not change in the United States, Canada and non-EU European countries. There will be a refund in the event of technical problems with the purchased content, and each case will be investigated by Apple.

The changes in the European Union countries are related to the new EU consumer rights directive, which introduces, among other things, 14 days required by law to withdraw or return purchased goods and services.

The European Commission guidelines were introduced in June, but Apple is only now updating most of the terms of sale on the Internet. The 14-day period may be extended to 1 year if the company no longer properly informs consumers about return dates.

How do I return apps and games purchased on the App Store without giving any reason?

  1. launch iTunes on your Mac or PC
  2. click on your username (or email) in iTunes and select Account Information from the drop-down menu
  3. log in with your Apple ID password
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Purchase History section and click on All
  5. select the paid item you want to return and press the Report a problem button
  6. if there are more items on the list, text links will appear next to the item and you should click again on the Report a problem link next to the item you are interested in returning
  7. you will be redirected to the browser, where, after logging in, you will be able to select from the drop-down list the item: I want to cancel this purchase (as in the screen above)
  8. click on the Cancel Purchase button
  9. you will receive a refund within 7 business days
