Tony “Ratboy” Walsh, a digital culture jammer messing with the `Net, pop-culture, and subculture’, urges people to join a revolution against the use of product placement in an article on Shift.com games in general and McDonald’s placement in The Sims Online in particular.
It was recently announced that the fast food chain McDonald’s will become part of The Sims Online. It will therefore be possible in the upcoming Massively Multiplayer Online version of The Sims to get a hamburger at one of the virtual restaurants, or to start one yourself.
According to Walsh, this way product placement becomes much more aggressive, because it goes from inactive to interactive. He also immediately came up with a few actions for you to oppose McDonald’s, if you want to become a rebel in his revolution. These range from protesting in front of one of the virtual restaurants, to starting your own restaurant, where you tell your customers that Big M is so against you.
