Stranger Things has references to Dark Souls or Silent Hill

The summer series, Stranger Things, of which we have already been able to see its concept art, not only took as a reference multiple films from the 80s, of which its directors have recognized having taken some of the central elements of the plot. As they have recognized in an interview with the American portal IGN, video games also served as inspiration.

Matt and Ross Duffer, also responsible for the film Hidden: Terror in Kingsville, were inspired by some of their favorite games during the writing of the script. One of them was Silent Hill, as evidenced by the setting of the forests and other locations in which the fog is very present, in addition to “that other world”, so similar to the one presented in the Konami title.

However, the Duffer brothers also took as a reference works such as Dark Souls, a saga that they claim to have understood the style of sound design necessary for Stranger Things, or The Last of Us: “I love the narration of that game”, has commented Matt Duffer. And to round out the whole, a scene from the series also showed a mythical Atari console. It seems that the directors are real gamers.
