Tap to Pay – i.e. iPhone also a payment terminal

Apple officially announced the “Tap to Pay” feature, allowing users to make payments on an iPhone like a payment terminal.

As recently predicted, Apple is expected to allow iPhone owners to use Apple Pay and “other contactless payments” simply via an iOS app. After recent rumors that iPhones are expected to accept credit and debit cards, Apple has officially announced an upcoming feature Tap to Pay (Zoom in to pay). We do not know the Polish name of the function, but in free translation it is touch / zoom or tap to pay.

As more and more consumers use contactless payments to pay with digital wallets and credit cards, the Tap to Pay feature on iPhone will provide businesses with a secure, private, and easy way to accept contactless payments. This is to unlock new checkout opportunities while taking advantage of the power, security, and convenience of the iPhone.

The feature has been developed in collaboration with payment platforms, application developers and payment networks to help businesses of all sizes – from individual entrepreneurs to large retailers – accept contactless payments seamlessly.

Tap to Pay does not require any additional hardware such as a separate payment terminal. Instead, it will be made available to app developers to integrate with their iOS apps.

Apple only says that the Tap to Pay feature will not begin rolling out until “late this year” and that it will initially only be available to US retailers.

Apple has already worked with Stripe to create a new payment app for the company’s services.

Whether you are an online retailer or an individual entrepreneur, you will soon be able to accept contactless payments on a device you already have in your pocket: on your iPhone, said Billy Alvarado, Stripe’s director of business.

With Tap to Pay on iPhone, millions of businesses using Stripe will make their business easier by offering their customers fast and secure payment.
