The European Union wants to force producers to replace batteries. Back to the classics I’m waiting for

According to the Danish Het Financieele Dagblad, the European Union would like to force manufacturers of consumer electronics to create structures that allow easy replacement of batteries.

We are used to the fact that the European Union sometimes likes to move a lot in the world of technology. I don’t like all the introduced (or planned) ones (for example, the unification of charging standards on all devices, but not on all). However, the novelty they are working on is the one I like the most, although the appearance of the devices will suffer. But to be honest: I’ll survive those few millimeters and cut more. For many, it won’t be particularly harsh anyway – they don’t see beautiful structures made from a single piece of glass, because they carry smartphones in a case anyway.

Easy replacement of batteries in smartphones is a change that will please many

The official reason for the lack of an easy battery replacement option in modern smartphones is, of course, a matter of design. The increasingly thin constructions must be aesthetic and with an amazing effect. In practice, it can be different: smartphones that are too thin have their problems, and the need to call for service to replace the battery (such a visit is of course priced appropriately) is still irritating. The European Union believes that allowing the smooth replacement of batteries in devices will also be a remedy to… reduce electrical waste, which we generate more and more every year. Will it work this way? Well, there will probably be a group of users to use it this way. However, those who are going to replace the smartphone… will do so anyway. Well, maybe it’s easier for the older model to find a new home, as battery replacement is likely to be much cheaper, and everyone will be able to do it at home. Like the good old days.
