Everyone knows the LEGO franchise, some from childhood and its potential as builders and others from audiovisuals. At this point, the most creative company in Norway has almost a hundred adaptations of universes to its particular style, among which Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings and Marvel stand out. When there is a big premiere, there is a good chance that LEGO will add it to its endless list and allow you to enjoy it from another geometric perspective. LEGO Dimensions is the culmination, it is the union of all its great characters, its successful settings and its humorous stories, intertwined in a dangerously entertaining way.

Everything focuses on the appearance of a dimensional gap used, how could it be otherwise, by the villain on duty who seeks to dominate all the LEGO universes. Here begins a story starring Batman, Gandalf and SuperCool, who will not be alone, because hundreds of characters will join this adventure, through different and varied universes.

The beginning is really funny because of the contrast it supposes. Batman is in pursuit in his universe, looking for Robin who has disappeared, the product of a dimensional portal. The superhero arms himself with courage and goes through it, thus falling into a totally different place from his own. Gandalf and the hobbits confront Balrok at that moment, the famous “you can’t pass” scene is recreated on screen. After the wizard falls into the abyss and faces the monster, Batman will appear at the most opportune moment, expelled from the dimensional portal and will share a fun moment with his, now, new partner.

Once they understand, in their own way, what is happening, they fall back on the world of SuperCool, less commercial, but no less effective. This character is one of the most useful in the game in its early stages. The protagonist is capable of acting as a hacker and saving you from some troubles with her scanner. As in all LEGO games, each character has their own abilities, which complement perfectly with those of others: Batman with his hook, Gandalf with his magical ability and the aforementioned SuperCool as a true computer scientist and capable of jumping. higher than anyone. The three must make their way into the different universes that make up the story and discover what the root of the problem is. Thus, the game is divided into a universe, with its characteristic LEGO missions, where you will have to make your way by assembling structures, activating systems, and solving the puzzles that arise to end up facing a final boss. In order not to make any spoilers about it, we will not list the universes in which the protagonists are recalled, but the first one, since it surprises us because of how old it is and what continues to fascinate many: the Wizard of Oz.

The universe is fully representative and will also force us to face-to-face with the Wicked Witch of the West, who will be the first bone – LEGO style – to be defeated. Here is the technique that will drive the game forward, the appearance of the portals of light. Crossing each one of them, red, blue and yellow, you will be able to reach places where otherwise it would be impossible. After successfully overcoming each universe, you will find precious objects and “cornerstones” that offer specific challenges when activated. All this will be expanded with the release of new packs, and the incorporation of new characters who will have access to secret areas or that They will directly add a new world to this dimensional plot.

To explain how the original LEGO bet works, you have to know the essential starter pack and its elements. As soon as you look at the box, you realize that you are not looking at a classic game, in which inserting the CD is all you have to do to start the adventure. The appearance is similar to that of the brand’s construction games, pieces everywhere and characters in action printed on the cardboard. For this reason, LEGO invites us to play in the two ways it controls, digitally and manually. The first thing that appears is a sensor, already known in other games such as Disney Infinity, where the characters and vehicles that are acquired can be placed. In the case of the initial pack, it will be necessary to position the protagonists: Batman, Gandalf and SuperCool and in the initial bars, we will be invited to build a portal – which serves as a perfect decoration for the sensor – and the Batmobile, another interactive element in the play. This alternation is extremely original, in addition to that little by little we will realize that the sensor has a lot to say when it comes to playing. Characters will have to be repositioned when required, and also when held by enemies. A new gameplay makes its way into the LEGO universe, loaded with fan service and for the fans.

The gameplay is similar to that of previous games of the brand, with the resolution of puzzles to advance, the confrontations with enemies and the alternation of abilities, only this time, the appearance of the dimensional portals will give another touch to the game. In this case, the strong point lies in the combination of worlds and the consonance in a very funny and hilarious story. This LEGO Dimensions promises hours and hours of expansion, since the incorporation of different types of packs has been detailed, which will sometimes incorporate the universe and other characters with secrets or vehicles. Back to the future, Portal, The Simpsons, Doctor Who, The Ghostbusters, Scooby Doo, DC Comics, Jurassic World, Ninjago and Midway Arcade are the universes that are already available, but little by little others such as Harry Potter, Greemlins, ET or Sonic. Duration: The duration is extensive, it continues in the line of LEGO games, with a minimum of 9 or 10 hours, which are increased if you want to collect characters and discover all the secret missions and discoveries. A more than acceptable duration, which is not tiring and is not insufficient. Conclusion: An exercise in originality. It makes you want to buy all those character figurines and expand the experience because it is really entertaining. The dynamics are still that of LEGO games, but not for that reason it is boring, the small changes together with the new plot capable of merging everything, make the game fun and quite epic.
