Because traditional anti-smoking advertising is often counterproductive and discourages young people from watching but not smoking, the American Legacy Foundation in the USA is developing an aggressive marketing campaign – financed by large tobacco companies.

The anti-nicotine fund wants 12-17 year olds to thoroughly spoil the pleasure of smoking cigarettes. Interactive marketing elements, such as a dedicated website, promotions on MySpace, Facebook and Bebo, and an online game similar to “Guitar Hero” will complement the TV advertising.
