Updated: Not yet confirmed, but big news: Nintendo buys Capcom!
According to cbs.marketwatch.com, Nintendo has acquired Capcom. Analysts also see this as a logical step, because Nintendo wants to shake off their childish image a bit.
If Capcom is actually bought for 100%, this means that titles such as Devil May Cry and Onimusha will come exclusively for the cube. And with games like Mario 128 and Pokémon online, Nintendo should get a more stable place in the market again.
Nintendo and Capcom themselves have declined to comment, but an official announcement is expected on Thursday.
*UPDATED Dec 23*
In an interview with Bloomberg, Capcom’s vice president has denied that the company has been or will be acquired by Nintendo. Capcom only wants to continue, and the sales of their games don’t give the impression that they can’t make it on their own.
He also immediately gave the Christmas figures: 900,000 copies of Biohazard 0 (Resident Evil 0) in Japan and America (400,000 in Japan and 500,000 in America).
The sales expectation of Devil May Cry 2, which will be released in Japan next month (here is expected March 2003), are also not wrong: 1.66 million copies; 600,000 in Japan, 700,000 in America and 360,000 in Europe.
So it is a clear ‘No’ to the happy fact that we heard this week. Unfortunately, it remains a fairy tale for now.
