Nvidia is expanding its offering with two powerful chips dedicated to laptops. The GeForce GTX 980M and 970M cards should be used in the most efficient models and take gaming on a laptop to a whole new level. Nvidia does not beat around the bush and says clearly: these are the most efficient graphics processors on the market for this segment.

Both new systems are based on the Maxwell architecture and are therefore manufactured in a 28 nanometer technological process. The manufacturer made sure they endorsed its flagship technologies. The list also includes: GameStream, GeForce Experience, Optimus, ShadowPlay. An additional advantage is the support for technologies that until now have been typical only for desktop cards. .

The GTX 980M is powered by 1,536 CUDA stream processors. The core clock is set at 1038 MHz, while the memory runs at 2500 MHz. The bus is 256 bits wide. The most efficient models include 4 GB GDDR5. All of this means that the GTX 980M will provide up to 80 percent. the performance of its desktop counterpart. As Nvidia emphasizes, the border between notebooks and desktops has never been thinner.

The weaker GTX 970M has 1280 CUDA processors. The core operates at a frequency of 924 MHz. The memory clock interface has not changed. However, the bus width was reduced to 192 bits and the maximum size of GDDR5 memory, which in this case is 3 GB. It’s worth noting that Nvidia hasn’t revealed how much the core clocks on both cards are overclocked in TurboBoost modes, which is particularly important information from a gamer’s point of view.

Nvidia says the new chips will allow the vast majority of the latest games to run at 2560 x 1440 resolution with ultra-high graphics settings. The processors have already been sold to manufacturers and today the first laptops from manufacturers such as Asus, MSI, Gigabyte or Clevo are debuting in stores. Of course, when it comes to the Polish market, we still have to be patient.
