Yahoo becomes Altaba and Marissa Mayer leaves the sinking ship

Yahoo group boss Marissa Mayer will leave the company’s board of directors – the supervisory body with far-reaching functions. Yahoo announced on Monday. In doing so, she is responding to the company’s web sale and name change. The company will then be renamed Altaba.

Hacker attacks and dark red numbers brought down Yahoo. Now the web business will go to Verizon if they don’t let the deal go. Verizon managers doubt the purchase of Yahoo after another hacker attack becomes known. Verizon could now acquire Yahoo at a noticeable discount. The group already owns AOL and wants to connect Yahoo to it. The remaining part of the company belongs to the Chinese online platform Alibaba and Yahoo Japan. Together this part will then be renamed to “Altaba”. But the name is not entirely lost: Verizon plans to keep the old name.

In addition to Mayer, according to media reports, Yahoo co-founder David Filo and four other members will leave the board. Mayer joined Yahoo in 2012 to bring the company, marginalized by Google and Facebook, to success again – but quickly failed.
