Here we decided to recall the best Star Wars games. Sometimes you just want to fly to a galaxy far, far away, but that’s not all.

Without further ado, let’s get started.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003)

The famous role-playing game from the BioWare studio. 19 years ago, the developers had complete creative freedom, screenwriter and writer Drew Karpyshyn (Drew Karpyshyn) and the invaluable support of LucasArts. These factors allowed the studio to create not just a good RPG, but one of the best games in the Star Wars universe. The events of KOTOR take the player back 4,000 years before the events depicted in the classic films.

The protagonist is a nameless soldier with amnesia who wakes up on a ship under attack by a Sith fleet. With the help of Republic pilot Kart Onasi, he escapes the ship in an escape pod and lands on the planet Taris. Here the player has to find the legendary Jedi Bastila Shan, who was also on the cruiser and is now captured by a group of bandits. The girl has a rare gift of combat meditation, with the help of which the Republic manages to contain the onslaught of the Sith. A year before the events of the game, she and several Jedi managed to defeat the powerful Sith Lord Darth Revan, who in the past, like Anakin Skywalker, turned his green sword into a red one. Now his apprentice Darth Malak has become the new Dark Lord and is hunting Bastila in order to use her abilities for his purposes.

The player must deal with many conflicts, master the Force, become a Jedi (or Sith), meet many characters and explore the lore of the Star Wars expanded universe. Jaws dropped after a cool twist in 2003, and the main characters were remembered on a par with the classic characters of the saga.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (2004)

BioWare didn’t have time to develop a sequel, and head writer Drew Karpyshyn was already working on Jade Empire. KOTOR II was developed by the newly formed Obsidian Entertainment, which consisted of people from Black Isle Studios. The main story and game design were entrusted to Chris Avellone, mentioned in Fallen Order.

The spirit of the sequel was much darker and darker than the original. The story begins five years after the events of the first KOTOR. The plot with the main character waking up on the ship and not understanding how he ended up there completely copies BioWare’s script moves. The protagonist himself is an exiled Jedi who lost his powers after controversial actions in the Mandalorian War. On the ship he discovers a strange old woman, Kreia, and a smuggler. They tell how the new evil and dangerous dark lord Darth Sion terrifies the entire galaxy. The world of KOTOR II clearly resembles the end of the third episode and the beginning of the fourth episode. The Jedi Temple is destroyed and the remains of the Order are scattered across various planets. Our goal is to bring them together, discover our past, fight back against the dark side and restore the Jedi Order. Or join the Sith and create a real hell for the inhabitants of a distant galaxy.

Despite the seemingly banal plot, the game is talentedly written and worked out to the smallest detail. Several plot twists, the revelation of the Mandalorians, the secret of the immortality of the Sith and side quests leave a pleasant impression.

The game’s release in 2004 was not without problems. Fate or not, the natives of the Black Isle are constantly prevented from completing their projects. KOTOR II was supposed to hit shelves in 2005, but the publisher flatly refused to allocate additional time to the developers, so the project came out unfinished. Locations, quests, landscapes and level development were put under the knife. This, in turn, influenced the final opinion of the game itself. Nevertheless, players and reviewers flattered the story itself and gave KOTOR II high marks.

Star Wars: The Old Republic (2012)

The third KOTOR did not take place, instead a multiplayer project appeared in the setting of the Old Republic. BioWare took over development, and the first game’s writer, Drew Karpyshyn, and Daniel Erickson were hired to lead the writing team.

Large-scale by 2012 standards, the MMO offered the player a truly new experience. SWTOR felt more like a true single-player RPG than an online project. Like Dragon Age Origins, each class had its own major plot and story. Choosing the dark or light side gave the player their own quests, available planets and characters.

The plot is presented here not through textual footnotes, but through real spoken dialogues with branching response options. It will take a lot of time to talk about the scenario of each class for the dark side and the light side. In short, this is a true continuation of the first two parts, and the events take place 300 years later. A large-scale war has subsided in the galaxy, slowly turning into a cold one. The Jedi and Sith have rebuilt schools to fill their ranks with soldiers ready to fight for the future. The Republic tries to regain its influence while the Empire diligently expands its holdings. The player must choose the side he wants to fight for.

Over the years, The Old Republic has shed the shackles of an MMO and evolved into an almost single-player RPG. The developers have concentrated all their efforts on the plot and staging.

Star Wars: Jedi Knights: Jedi Academy (2003)

A highly acclaimed Jedi simulator in which the player can wield a lightsaber and powers as well as firearms. The game is a sequel to Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, set ten years after the end of Return of the Jedi. The Emperor and Darth Vader have fallen, the second Death Star is destroyed, but the Empire refuses to give up and continues to fight (no First Orders and other nonsense here). The protagonist is Jaden Korr, a student at the Jedi Academy. He is with Luke Skywalker and other remnants of the Jedi Order…
