Capcom is going to do more with downloads
In 2006, publisher Capcom began offering games in download form with Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting at http://www.capcomdigital.com/, but not much has been done with it since then. That is about to change.
The company has realized that certain games simply don’t sell well enough through traditional channels and will therefore come up with more games that are only downloadable. One such new game is Plunder, a pirate-style ship-battle game from some developers who once worked on Halo. Plunder will be released on the Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 and PC. The publisher’s seriousness can be seen in the following statement from Michael Pattison, senior European marketing director at Capcom:
- We want to be a leading player in the download sector as it grows, and with our current plans we look set to achieve this goal.
In the coming year we can expect Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Bionic Commando Rearmed.
