In this little guide you will learn how to graphically display GTA V can optimize on your PC if it is equipped with one Nvidiagraphics card is equipped. Please note that Nvidia offers a very simple option for PC optimization via GeForce Experience. Here you can click on GTA-update specific GeForce drivers.

Nvidia Percentage Closer Soft Shadows creates shadows that become softer the further you move away from the object that is casting the shadow. To enable this feature, select NVIDIA PCSS under Soft Shadows. You can also enable the following effects to further enhance this effect:

  • Shader Quality: Very High

  • Shadow Quality: Very High

  • Grass Quality: Ultra

  • High Resolution Shadows: On

NVIDIA TXAA anti-aliasing was by Nvidia Specially revised/tuned for selected high-end cards. If you have a GeForce GTX 600, 700, 800 or 900 Series Kepler or Maxwell GPU (graphics card), you should choose TXAA in combination with Dynamic Super Resolution. Otherwise, the best choice is DSR with FXAA, which gives better performance than MSAA at lower resolutions.

Anisotropic filtering is used natively in the game. However, you can also activate NVIDIA Control Panel Anisotropic Filtering to get a slight improvement.

Distance Scaling is to be preferred over other effects, as significant pop-in will otherwise be noticeable at lower detail levels (settings). However, extended distance scaling should be reserved for the most powerful systems.

Extended Shadow Distance However, it only has a minimal impact on performance, regardless of what other settings you choose. This greater shadow width increases the number of shadows, the detail of the shadows, etc. You should always keep this feature enabled.

Grass quality has the greatest impact on performance of all the features. Normal removes all foliage (all leaves), so you should at least select the High setting. If your PC is brand new, you can also choose Very High, if it is a high-end device, also Ultra.

High Detail Streaming While Flying allows you to increase or decrease visual fidelity to achieve better performance. In general, you should only activate this feature if you are in the air very often; otherwise you should turn it off.

High resolution shadows (High-resolution shadows) have a very strong impact on performance. If your PC cannot handle this, you should opt for Soft Soft Shadows so that differences in the display of the shadows are not so noticeable.

Depth of Field (Depth of field) is a personal preference of many users. If you max out this feature, you’ll lose around 1.6 frames per second in gameplay.

Long Shadows (Long shadows) can be deactivated/switched off without hesitation as this effect is hardly visible.

Nvidia noticed that it is difficult to see the effect of the Particle Quality (particle quality). In general, it produces slightly better details, but it doesn’t lead to a major impact on performance.

Population Density (Population density) is also difficult to estimate. Generally recommended Nvidia 75% Population Density, but always be prepared to adjust this value. This value, in combination with other values such as reflection and shadow, can have a significant negative impact on performance.

Population Variety (Population diversity) does not affect performance at all and ultimately depends on your VRAM. Nvidia recommends turning this feature off to be able to choose better textures and shadows.

PostFX It is best to set it to Very High, as all advantages will be lost if you set this value lower. Fortunately, it has little effect on performance.

Reflections (Mirroring) is best set to high. If you choose Normal, the image quality suffers considerably, while the Very High and Ultra settings significantly reduce performance. You can deactivate Reflection MSAA at any setting you choose without it having a negative visual impact.

Shader quality is best set to High (or Very High if your PC can handle it). At these settings it has a minimal impact on graphics quality/detail.

It pays off Shadow quality (Shadow Quality), but it has a relatively modest impact on performance. High Shadow Quality works for all Soft Shadow settings except Sharp.

Tessellation generally has no visible impact on performance. Maxwell GPUs can accomplish tessellation three times faster than other cards.

Water quality (Water quality) has very little impact on performance and looks wonderful. You should at least set this feature to High.

Texture Quality (Texture Quality) works consistently with all settings, but if you have relatively little VRAM, you can lower this setting to High.

Since just from VRAM I’m talking about, I’d like to point out that you need to have at least 1335MB of VRAM to use the best textures at 1080p resolution, and an additional 1211MB for 8x MSAA. A 4GB GPU allows you to enable all settings at 1080p resolution. In order to be able to activate all of them even at higher resolutions, a Titan X is required.

Nvidia has added 3D support via its in-house 3D Vision glasses. If your monitor is in G-Sync, it should be compatible with these glasses.
