How to connect Amazon Fire Tablet to TV
In this article we will talk about how to mirror Amazon Fire Tablet display to your TV screen. Amazon has come a long way since it entered the net as an online bookstore in the 1990s. After expanding beyond books at the turn of the century, Amazon’s continued growth has made it one of the largest online marketplaces in the world and today the company is known for everything from food to clothing to cinema or to music.
Although Amazon’s line of gadgets began with the Kindle eReader in the mid-2000s, it has since expanded to smart speakers, tablets, TV boxes, HDMI cables, and even custom smartphones. Amazon is basically a one-stop shop for everything you need in your life, and that includes some brand new tech products.
You recently bought an Amazon Fire Tablet, and you enjoy like crazy watching Netflix, Infinity and many more. You are not completely happy, because you would like to see the display of your Amazon Fire Tablet on the TV. In a few lines we will talk about this, of how to connect Amazon Fire Tablet to TV.
The Fire tablet uses the Fire OS, an operating system based on Android and largely similar to what is expected of Android. This means that your tablet is full of many of the features of Android, simply customized to perfectly fit the Amazon ecosystem.
How to connect Amazon Fire Tablet to TV
On a standard Android device, you typically have the option to cast your content to a Chromecast compatible device, as well as several other devices depending on the app you are using. Netflix or YouTube, for example, can be streamed directly from Roku or smart TV apps, although they weren’t created directly for mirroring.
Unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t support the Google Cast standard – Chromecast isn’t sold on the Amazon website, the Amazon Prime Video app doesn’t allow you to stream to Chromecast, and the software on the Fire TV doesn’t have any standard Cast support built in.
The company offers two distinct versions of display mirroring on its devices:
- Second Screen / Second Screen: Similar to the Cast standard, Second Screen allows you to send content to a Fire TV or Fire Stick device. Some apps, including Netflix, also allow you to send your content directly to non-Amazon devices, but to watch videos directly through Amazon, you must have a Fire TV or Fire Stick as a streaming device.
- Screen mirroring: Unlike the second screen, screen mirroring allows you to stream anything displayed on your device, from your Facebook feed to a recipe displayed on your device. Essentially, it turns your television into a wireless computer monitor controlled via your tablet. Unfortunately, there are a lot of limitations, including a lack of support for newer devices.
Not all Fire tablets are created equal, and therefore, not all Fire tablets can properly duplicate content on the device. Even with Fire TV, you’re not guaranteed to mirror your content.
In fact, no 7th generation device can correctly duplicate the display to a TV, which makes it difficult to purchase a device currently on sale that can properly mirror the tablet’s screen to an Amazon Fire TV or Fire Stick device.
Amazon’s tablet support page states that display mirroring is limited to a certain subsection of devices:
- Kindle Fire HDX 7 “(third generation)
- Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 “(3rd generation)
- Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 (4th Generation)
- Amazon Fire HD 8 (5th Generation)
- Amazon Fire HD 10 (5th Generation)
How to connect Amazon Fire Tablet to TV
So if you’re ready to start streaming content from Amazon Fire Tablet on TV, we recommend that you take your tablet and make sure you have a device ready for use.
If you want to get the most out of your tablet, we recommend purchasing a Fire TV or Fire Stick device; they are cheap and quite small, once added to existing technology they should be pretty easy to set up.
For this example, we’ll primarily look at how to stream content to a Fire OS-branded device.
How to connect Amazon Fire Tablet to TV using Second Screen or Cast Experience
If you own an older tablet or one of Amazon’s new models for 2018, you’ll be happy to know that it is streaming your favorite Amazon videos to Fire TV or Fire Stick is easy.
You’ll need to take your Fire tablet, make sure your Fire TV device is active, and unlike Chromecast, make sure both devices are linked to the same Amazon account. If both of your devices aren’t linked to the same Amazon account, you won’t be able to get it to work.
Go to the home screen on your device and scroll down the menu until you reach the Videos tab, then select “Store”.
This will upload your rented, purchased, and Prime-compatible movies (assuming you are a Prime member).
Select a title on your device and you will see the typical options for watching your movie.
The device will show both the “Watch Now” option, which will play the movie or TV show on your tablet, and the “Download” option, which stores the movie for offline viewing.
Among these options, you will see a “Watch on Fire TV / Fire TV Stick” icon, depending on the device you connected to the TV.
If you’re not using Fire TV and don’t have the same account linked to both devices, you won’t see this option.
Unlike Airplay or Chromecast, Amazon’s second screen requires sharing an account between both devices.
When you tap this option, the tablet will load the Second Screen interface which provides more information about the movie.
You can scroll through the cast, jump to scenes like a DVD, view trivia about the scene, and more.
You can also turn off the screen on the tablet when the video is playing.
As mentioned above, some apps, including the Netflix app and the YouTube app available on the Google Play Store, are able to stream not only to the Fire TV, but to any device with the apps installed.
This is done using the same settings we’ve seen from Chromecast-compatible apps.
Load the application and select the Cast icon in the upper right corner of the display.
A menu for selecting the streaming device will appear in the corner of the app, and you can use your device to select a specific playback device, such as a smart TV or Roku player.
This is on an app-by-app basis and entirely depends on who developed the app you are using.
Is the Amazon Fire Tablet new?
If your device matches one of the device models mentioned above, mirroring your device to the TV can be done quickly and system-wide.
If you’re not sure if your device falls into the model list above, you’ll need to dive into your tablet’s settings and select “Display”.
Look for the option labeled “Display Mirroring” in the settings menu.
If you see this option, congratulations – you can use device mirroring.
Simply select the option, make sure your Fire TV or Fire Stick is activated, and select Fire TV from the device list that appears on the display.
Amazon says it may take up to 20 seconds for your device’s image to appear on the display, but once that’s done, you’ll be able to directly view your tablet’s image right on your TV.
Of course, anyone who bought a Fire tablet in 2017, and particularly during the latter part of the year, after Amazon updated the Fire 7 and HD 8 in the summer and HD 10 in the winter, will not be able to sign in with this option. .
