How to delete Windows 10 temporary files
Is your computer not running as fast as it should? Perhaps the solution is to delete temporary Windows 10 files, which are stored silently and end up being an unnecessary burden. These files are stored by Windows 10 to perform specific functions, but over time all they do is take up space and hinder PC performance. Therefore, deleting temporary files is an effective way to free up internal memory on our computer.
How to delete temporary files
To remove temporary files, the first thing to do is to enter the Windows Settings menu, the cogwheel, which we can access both from the desktop icon and by pressing the Windows key.
Once we have entered the Windows configuration, the next step is to click on System. In the column that we see on the left, we will see a section that says Storage, from which we can manage everything related to it.
Next we see the fragmentation of the hard drives that we have in our computer. But we still have the option This Computer (C 🙂 to access the main hard disk memory configuration of Windows, which is what interests us.
After that we will see the various types of files that decorate our hard disk, but those that concern us are, of course, in the Temporary files category.
At this point, and depending on how overloaded our system is, we may have to wait a few minutes to wait for the screen to load and access these documents.
This is where we will see the various temporary files that we have on our computer. To delete temporary files, simply select the ones we want to delete. We can select the options we find useful to clear and once done, just go down on the button that says Remove files to start the process and our OS will be a little faster.
Clean up temporary files with Windows 10 Cleaner
Microsoft’s system has a simple utility that allows us to get rid of some temporary files stored on the computer.
How to clean your PC of unnecessary files:
To do this, the first thing we need to do is type Delete Temporary Files in the search box on the taskbar and click on the result that is shown to open the tool.
A window will open in which we will be shown the amount of space that the system itself has calculated that we can delete. Now, from the list of files that can be deleted, we will decide with everything we want to delete. To do this, we will simply have to check the box that is shown next to each option and finally click on the button Clean up system files.
Previously, we will be able to see the amount of MB or GB we will recover by deleting all the selected files.
How to delete temporary files manually
If we prefer, there is another more direct option for deleting temporary files. This involves opening Windows File Explorer and navigating to the folder C: WindowsTemp. Here we can manually delete them in a more direct way. Obviously we must know that to have access to this folder our user must have administrator permissions and that this will delete the temporary files common to all users.
If what we want is to delete files that we are not using for a specific user, then we need to go to the folder C: UsersusernameAppDataLocalTemp and delete everything we find inside that folder. Now, it is important to know that the AppData folder is hidden by default, so first of all we need to show it to be able to access that path.
