Netflix features some of the best TV shows, movies, and documentaries. Perhaps the best thing about this streaming service is that it knows what you want to watch, thanks to its sophisticated algorithms. The dynamic homepage and thumbnails look attractive, but discovery is still a challenge.
That insufficiency is especially evident when you’re in the mood to experiment or want to try out new genres. And that’s when you feel stranded with no options to tell you about reviews, hidden movies, sub-genres, and leaving you with a search option.
So what do you do? Are you letting Netflix take control of your surveillance habits? Well, how about the other way around?
In this post, we explore some of the must-have Android apps that will enhance your Netflix experience and help you fill in the gaps.
Let us begin.

If you are an avid Netflix fan, you should know that Netflix adapts the thumbnails according to your watch history. Imagine discovering a thumbnail of an interesting movie only to find that the movie wasn’t worth it.
Don’t want to see IMDB scores on Netflix easily? Mainly to find out the ratings of a particular movie and other details before investing our precious time on it.
Flutter brings movie ratings into the Netflix app using a neat overlay that shows the average rating as soon as a title is opened. Here’s how the app makes it easy to watch the highest-rated content on Netflix.
This app gets movie ratings from IMDB, so there’s no need to worry as it is considered by many to be a reliable source for movie and TV show ratings. However, Flutter requires access to accessibility settings and overlay permissions to function.
You can even find the hottest movies and shows through the app. Just make sure to keep this app on the Not Optimized list under Battery Optimization.
What movie should I watch today? is perhaps one of the most common dilemmas of a Netflix user. Just Watch solves this problem through its catalog of all recent additions to Netflix. In addition to showing all titles, it shows a timeline when a particular movie was added.
You can customize your search by specifying the average rating and the type of movies you would like to see.
To use this application, you need to select the region and then the service – Netflix. Once done, the app will display all the new Netflix content. To filter shows and movies, tap on Filter and customize it to your liking.
3. 3. Rave
Rave takes community policing to a whole new level. This little application allows you to watch movies and shows with your friends even when they are not in the same city or country. All you need to do is invite someone with a valid Netflix account to your virtual party. Also, there are many public viewing streams that you can join.
This app plays the Netflix home screen on your phone. Once you select a title, scroll down and tap Privacy> Friends, and share the link with your friend via email or SMS.
Apart from the above features, Rave integrates chat in case you want to have a quick chat with your friend. Rave also supports a couple of other services like YouTube, History Channel, Vimeo, and Liked.
You may have some latency issues, but not too annoying to spoil the fun.
Note : Both parties need a working Netflix account for this app to work.
4. Hide IPVPN for global content
The other day I was looking for Thor: Ragnarok on Netflix, and I was surprised when I couldn’t find it. However, a quick Google search revealed that the title was indeed available on Netflix, but only for select regions. What a pity!
Netflix serves content in different regions and each region has a different catalog. So how can these region restrictions be avoided? Turns out there is a way around it, after all.
The answer is VPN apps. Although there are many apps on the Play Store, HideIPVPN is one of the best apps for this job. It is free and it is comparatively faster compared to the other applications.
As is the practice with these apps, you would need to log into a US VPN, access Netflix, and watch the magic unfold before you. Yes, you can thank me later.
Note: If you plan to use any other VPN service, then the experience and speed may not be optimized for it. Therefore, this requires a bit of trial and error on your part.
Do you want your movies to be cleaned of nudity, adult language and violence? If so, VidAngel is the one for you. This clean app filters out the profanity and mature content of movies, making them ideal for family viewing.
You would need to connect your Netflix account to use this application. The admirable thing about this application is that it allows you to choose the content you want to skip.
Before starting any show, tap on Filters to list the object content. All you have to do is tap on the ones you want to skip. Once you make your selections, VidAngle will tailor the flow for you.
VidAngel is perfect if you want to skip the NSFW (Not Safe for Work) scenes to watch the shows on your commute or during your office hours.
20th Century Fox, Disney, and Warner Bros sued VidAngel in 2016 for copyright infringement. After losing the legal battle, VidAngel switched to digital streaming services like Netflix and Amazon.
Note : VidAngel is free for the first 30 days, after which you must pay $ 9.99 per month to continue using it.
6. Secret movie categories
Forget hunting and digging through the Netflix archive for movies. Secret Movie Categories makes this job easy for you by listing all the hidden and obscure subgenres.
What I liked about this app is that you don’t need to connect your Netflix account. Open the app, choose a category, and all the movies belonging to that genre will show up in the original Netflix app.
Of course, the catalog will depend on the region of your Netflix account.

7. Simkl lists
Do you often miss watching your favorite shows and movies? If so, Simkl Lists is going to be your new best friend. This app helps you create watch lists so you can easily follow your favorite shows and movies. It even sends you emails about your favorite shows, so you never miss them again.
Apart from that, it gives you complete information about the titles. Also, you can check the IMDB ratings and watch the trailer. Simkl aces with Netflix, and it also works for other streaming services like Hulu, Amazon Video, Look, etc.
