Gartner publishes forecasts for the future of the BI landscape

According to the IT market research and consulting firm Gartner, less than 30 percent of business intelligence (BI) initiatives will have their analytics fully adapted to their business drivers by 2014. Regardless of this, adaptation is the foremost challenge of BI. According to Gartner, cloud offerings will only account for three percent of sales with BI by 2013, although every major BI platform provider offers a cloud.

The analysts also forecast that by 2013 BI initiatives will be based on an organizational model that will strike a balance between centralized and decentralized data provision.

“The future of the BI landscape is split between the marketing hype about urgent challenges on the one hand and reality on the other,” said Andreas Bitterer, Research Vice President at Gartner. “The need for analytics doesn’t match the skill needs of most organizations; The provider hype for cloud-based BI is not reflected in sales and customer acceptance, and there is a battle between central and decentralized organizational models of BI data provision.

Andreas Bitterer will speak about the future of BI at the Gartner Business Intelligence Summit 2012 from February 6th to 7th in London.
