Although she is the leader of World of Warcrafts Horde, Sylvanas is currently at the top of the blacklist of many Horde players. The reason? A few days ago she committed an all-too-bad act. Now another important Horde character has turned his back on her, and players are demonstrating in-game to show their solidarity with him.

In a short film released yesterday, the legendary Horde warrior Varok Saurfang has enormous remorse because Sylvanas burned down the night elf fortress Teldrassil, the World Tree.

“There is no honor in this!” he roared towards Sylvanas as she watched the tree burn. “They will come for us now. All of them!”

Later, while speaking to a young troll who had never fought before, he removed his shoulder armor because he was disgusted by the idea that such a thing as honor could be won in the coming battle. Saurfang stormed into the night without armor towards a large Alliance camp – probably to die. Despite being weak and inexperienced, the troll ran after him and also removed his shoulder pads/shoulder armor to show his solidarity with Saurfang. Ultimately, the troll managed to convince Saurfang not to give up on himself and the ___ just yet.

New Horde players, still upset by Sylvanas’ actions and inspired by the unexpected duo of Saurfang and “Zappy Boi” (as the troll is often called), are also removing their in-game shoulder armor to show their solidarity to show and protest against this turn of events. Well, they don’t actually remove the shoulder armor – you have to keep those sweet, sweet stat buffs after all – but use it Wows appearance-changing “transmogrification” feature to ensure that your characters’ shoulder pads are no longer visible.

A player named Riizu is the unofficial leader of the “Shoulders For Saurfang” movementwho have one Discord and a Community in play has. The former already has 150 members, the latter 400.

Like many other players Riizu from the recent developments before Battle For Azeroth disappointed, but he sees Shoulders For Saurfang as a way to express that disappointment in a positive way.

“It must be clear to Blizzard that their recent choices with Sylvanas, and the Horde as a whole, aren’t well-received and that perhaps these choices are meant to intentionally incite more faction loyalty,” says Riizu. “The hope is that Shoulders For Saurfang can be a launch point for that. I hope that SFS can provide players a way to positively share their opinions and draw excitement to the expansion.” He also hopes this will mitigate some of the negative feedback that members of the Wow Development teams are overwhelmed.

This protest is currently just getting started, but there are already further plans. Shoulders For Saurfang will host an in-game event on August 7th, most likely on a role-playing server, where players will march from Orgrimmar, the capital of the , to the Alliance territory of Darkshore.

Riizu also notes that technically Horde and Alliance are now more hostile than ever before, but Alliance players are welcome to help plan demonstrations on Discord. He says that he is from the most recent Warcraft novel Before The Storm can be inspired, which serves as an official prequel Battle For Azeroth serves.

“Cooperation and growth for both factions is a major theme,” he says. “I’d love to see SFS echo that sentiment.”
