Although the World of Warcraft Since Patch 5.3 is not yet available for testing, WoW fans are scrutinizing the patch notes closely and searching for the smallest hints of new content. More about everyone’s favorite Pokemon-like battle pets and new achievements associated with them have now been revealed.

The first of these new critters is the Unborn Val’kyr (seen above), which was introduced by Blizzard developer Cory Stockton on Twitter. Fully grown, the Val’kyr served the Lich King and now you play an important role in the hometown of the Death Knight class. Unfortunately, it is not yet known how you can take possession of this adorable undead death machine and what abilities it has.

Stockton also tweeted that a new Hit System will be used in Pet Battles, which will be detailed in a blog post next week. Hopefully it will make combat mechanics more transparent.

In addition, a new achievement has also been found that contains a list of all the new battle pets that can be obtained in the raid dungeons – so far Tempest Keep, Karazhan and Serpentshrine Cavern are known – of the second expansion. Raiding with Leashes II: Attunement Edition is the successor of Raiding with Leashes Achievement from Patch 5.1, which sent players into classic raid zones that can now be tackled alone with a level 90 hero with Heroic equipment. It can be assumed that the Burning Crusade raid zones will also be adjusted so that you can tackle them alone (or at least the bosses that drop the 10 battle pets for this achievement). The new pets and the items you can use to summon them are:

  • Lil’ Bad Wolf (Spiky Collar)
  • Menagerie Custodian (Instant Arcane Sanctum Security Kit)
  • Netherspace Abyssal (Netherspace Portal Stone)
  • Tide Skipper (Shell of Tide Calling)
  • Fiendish Imp (Satyr Charm)
  • Tainted Waveling (Tainted Core)
  • Coilfang Stalker (Dripping Strider Egg)
  • Pocket Reaver (Tiny Fel Engine Key)
  • Lesser Voidcaller (Crystal of the Void)
  • Phoenix Hawk Hatchling (Brilliant Phoenix Hawk Feather)

For all die-hard Battle Pet Trainers, there’s the new Deadly Pet Brawler achievement, which rewards those who win 1000 battles using only level 25 pets and use the Find Battle feature to challenge other players.

This information should still be treated with caution, as a lot still changes during the course of public testing.

Oh how nice, now we can buy virtual pets in World of Warcraft
