Smartphone, tablet, laptop, electronic watch – we don’t notice how many gadgets we use every day, but there’s probably a separate drawer in the nightstand for chargers and cables. However, for all portable equipment you can use only one universal charger – for example, Anker 735 GaNPrime 65W. We tested it and share our impressions in the review.
Today, Anker is known as a manufacturer of speaker systems and various electronics for mobile devices, cars and smart homes, but its main niche from its founding in 2012 to this day remains chargers, docking stations and portable power supplies.
The manufacturer’s solutions are called advanced on the market: both in terms of reliability and technology that can determine the future of all power adapters. Let’s see what the Anker 735 universal charger based on gallium nitride (GaN) is.

Equipment
With this device, Anker opened the third generation GaNPrime line, and to make the new product catch the eye, the manufacturer updated the packaging design. The box looks premium – durable cardboard, high-quality printing and stickers instead of tape in tear-off areas, which I have only seen on expensive iPhones.
The packaging is made like an insert, but the walls do not fit tightly to the lid, so I had to open it with caution. The components are provided with a plastic form that protects the device from the consequences of careless delivery.
The equipment is minimal: charger and documentation, Russian language is present. If anyone was hoping to see power cables, I hasten to disappoint – this is only a power adapter, wires are not included in the package.
Design
The Anker 735 GaNPrime 65W charger turned out to be small in size: 53% smaller than a similar device of the previous generation. It has the shape of a small elongated rectangle, only 6.6 centimeters long (not counting the plug) and is practically no different from other standard chargers.
The charger is made in black color, the surface of the case is covered with a soft-touch finish that is pleasant to the touch. On the left side of the case there is a mention not only of the manufacturer, but also of the GanPrime series. Below are subtle technical specifications and operating modes. There are no distinctive elements on the other sides.
The charging ports are hidden under a protective sticker – a nice little thing, you can feel the company’s care. It hides a silver panel underneath, additionally framed by a ribbed surface. It has no practical significance, it is just a decorative element.
The device has three ports – two USB-C are located next to each other, and below is an older USB-A. The panel additionally mentions IQ4 fast charging technology, and there is a laptop icon above the top ports – another hint that the Anker 735 GaNPrime 65W can handle more than just smartphones.
As a result, the Anker 735 GaNPrime 65W simply has a good design; in appearance it resembles standard chargers. The manufacturer wanted to show them that the device is no different from conventional chargers, but at the same time it is multifunctional, “smart” and environmentally friendly.
Interesting fact: If every US home had a GaNPrime device instead of other adapters, it could save 796.39 million kWh per year – enough to keep the lights of Hawaii on for a month.
Peculiarities
In addition to its compact size and environmental friendliness, Anker 735 GaNPrime 65W has a number of other interesting features. Perhaps the average consumer will not even know about them; they are not listed in the attached documentation.
Using GaN technology. GaN is a semiconductor material, gallium nitride, that chargers can and are revolutionizing. It handles high input voltages with lower resistance, making it ideal for power electronics applications and achieving high energy efficiency in a smaller package.
As an ordinary user, I am simply pleased that Anker does not stand still and uses new technologies in attempts to achieve better results.
The charger supports simultaneous charging of multiple devices. In this case, the main port is not rebooted when other devices are connected, it remains independent.
This is great news for those who intend to use the adapter for a laptop and smartphone at the same time. Especially if the laptop cannot live without a constant connection to the network.
Power IQ technology. The company’s feature is that thanks to it, the charger automatically regulates the voltage supply to the USB-C ports in real time and determines the power requirement of each connected device. If translated into human terms, this should reduce charging time.
After – Active Shield 2.0 intelligent temperature monitoring technology, which already monitors heating and changes the output power of connected devices in order to prevent their damage and other undesirable consequences. The manufacturer increased the frequency of automatic checks by 75% – up to 3 million times a day. That is, ~2090 times per minute the memory checks the temperature.
This is a significant advantage in my opinion, since after reading news about smartphones and power supplies catching fire, I unplug the adapter from the outlet after charging. With Anker 735 GaNPrime 65W you don’t have to worry about this and sleep peacefully.
Compatible with more than 1000 devices. The manufacturer openly states that the Anker 735 GaNPrime 65W is compatible primarily with Apple devices, but I tested with many non-Apple devices and described my experience in the section below.
Support 65W chargingwhich is relevant given the emergence of super-fast chargers for Android smartphones.
As a result, along with compactness, we get energy efficiency, reliable protection against overheating, compatibility with various devices and relatively new technology. This is precisely why Anker chargers are highly rated.
Impressions of use
The Anker 735 GaNPrime 65W charger turned out to be unusually heavy – its weight is 144 grams, which is comparable to a smartphone. This will be especially felt during the first time of use.
As mentioned, the memory is primarily created for Apple devices – iPhone smartphones, iPad tablets, Apple Watch smart watches, AirPods headphones and MacBook Pro laptops. Of this entire line, I only have the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which has a 5000 mAh battery.
Has charging become faster, as the manufacturer claims? Honestly – not as expected. From 27% to 87%, the smartphone charged in hours with the network turned on, then reached 100% in half an hour. Peak power gradually dropped from 20 W to 8 W. The smartphone charges definitely faster than with official solutions from Apple, but the speed is the same as with other unofficial 20 W chargers.
It is possible that the speed will be higher when two devices are connected at the same time, but this scenario could not be tested. It is worth remembering that the maximum power of 65 W is not always achieved – it all depends on the device being charged and the supported fast charging protocols.
But I was pleasantly pleased with other facts. The power adapter does not heat up, does not become red-hot like my old charger, the temperature remains at room temperature. The difference is noticeable; there is no thought that the adapter will overheat and ruin the phone, or, worse, fail on its own. The charging speed gradually dropped from 60 mAh per minute to 30 mAh per minute, and sometimes to 10 mAh per minute – the change was carried out dynamically thanks to built-in technologies.
They didn’t lie about 1000 or more devices. I managed to revive my old Moto E7 Plus, charge my Amazfit GTS 2 mini watch and even an e-reader – without any problems or overheating. True, the smartphone with Android took a little more than two hours.
Verdict
With the Anker 735 GaNPrime 65W the story is the same as with other chargers from the manufacturer – it is not about speed, but about versatility, safety and convenience. By sacrificing time, we get one charger that can charge almost any gadget in the house, including a laptop, and without worrying about overheating.
The device turned out to be compact, but noticeable in weight – however, this will not prevent you from taking it on a trip instead of 3-4 similar power adapters.
The only obstacle may be the price – at the time of writing, the charger costs from 3,600 rubles to 7,999 rubles, which can significantly hit your pocket. But with the Anker 735 GaNPrime 65W you can forget about buying other power adapters, and the advantages, in my opinion, outweigh the disadvantages.
