Actor Simu Liu, best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, may be working on an adaptation of the open-world action film Sleeping Dogs. The game was released in 2012 and tells the story of an undercover Hong Kong police officer who recently returned from the United States.
Simu Liu hinted at this during his speech at Comic-Con. The celebrity spoke briefly about a secret project, the details of which point to Sleeping Dogs.
There’s a video game with a protagonist, let’s say, Asian American, set in Hong Kong. Maybe I’ll work on it. I won’t name the game because I don’t want to rush anything. But this is something I really enjoy doing.
—Sim Liu
The news of Simu Liu’s possible participation spread even more after his activity on social networks. The actor liked the post on Twitter, in which he asked if he was talking about Sleeping Dogs, and also shared a note from the Illuminerdi portal on Instargam stories (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in Russia), in which his words were discussed at Comic-Con.
Recall that the film about Sleeping Dogs was announced back in 2017 – then Donnie Yen was supposed to play the main role. In 2020, the Ip Man star hinted at preparations for filming an action film, but as we know, they never started. 🙀 Cat from Stray has been replaced by CJ from GTA: San Andreas
