When you try to start GTA Online you are currently getting the error message “Timed out searching for a GTA Online session. “Try again later” and are you wondering how to get the problem under control? We also asked ourselves this question when we recently tried to get into the online mode of the new GTA 5 for the next-generation consoles on the PS4 or Xbox One. Even though everything went well initially and there were no noticeable failures even after the release, in the last few days we have repeatedly received the error message “Timed out while searching for a GTA Online session. Try again later” or also an “unknown network error in GTA Online”, as we have already described in the linked article. A few days ago the time had finally come and the next-gen version of GTA 5 came onto the market for the PS4 and Xbox One and even if you had already played the old version, it wasn’t just because of the innovations but because of them A reason to buy, especially because of the significantly better graphics, at least that was the case for us. Thanks to the ability to move your old character from the PS3 or Xbox 360 to the PS4 or Xbox One once, everything worked smoothly, except for the online mode in the form of GTA Online in the last few days. Because when you try to join an online session, the above-mentioned error message always appears with “Timed out searching for a GTA Online session”. We looked for a solution to the problem and summarized the result here.
Error message: Timed out while searching for a GTA Online session. Try again later
Timeout error message in GTA 5 Online for PS4/Xbox One
Strangely enough, the error didn’t always occur and seemed to alternate with the error message “Unknown network error”. As already mentioned, everything worked without any problems at the beginning, although we actually expected such error messages immediately after the release. But even after intensive research, we couldn’t find a real cause for the error message “Timed out while searching for a GTA Online session. “Try again later” in GTA 5 Online with us, so we assume that the servers are simply overloaded at the moment. This would also be supported by the fact that this message usually occurs in the evening hours, as many people are probably home from work and want to play GTA 5 Online.
The only thing you should certainly check is whether there is an existing internet connection. On the one hand, whether other devices in the same network can access the Internet and, on the other hand, whether the PS4 can access the Internet and should therefore theoretically be able to play GTA Online.
- Check the internet connection using another device such as a smartphone on the network.
- Check the Internet connection of your Xbox One or PlayStation 4 to prevent the error message “Timed out searching for a GTA Online session” from simply being a lack of Internet connection.
Have you had similar experiences and been able to solve the problem somehow or is it just a matter of waiting and drinking tea?
