Season 2 of Telltales Walking Dead The series is still a while away, but 400 Days is here to fill the void left by the end of the first season. And what will the emptiness be filled with? Now with lots of holes. That’s just The Walking Dead’s thing. The lightweight downloadable episode is only around an hour and a half long and doesn’t have anywhere near the emotional impact of the first season. Still, it’s a good standalone experience that’s a good harbinger of what’s to come for the series.

Set a little over a year after the day the dead began to walk, 400 Days plays like a series of loosely connected vignettes about five different characters who have nothing to do with each other. You can tackle these vignettes in any order, encountering the following characters: a man on a prison bus, a woman protecting her sister, a child walking down a street, two stoners, and a junkie on the way Improvement. The episodes overlap in a fairly subtle way, which you might not notice until you’ve finished them all, but essentially they’re little stories that stand on their own – you could almost compare them to an episode of The Twilight Zone, because each one The story has a fascinating hook, forces some difficult decisions and offers a quite satisfying conclusion.

It’s a testament to really good writers that the decisions that need to be made aren’t easy. Even though you don’t spend more than 30 minutes with any of the characters, you’ll find that you care about their well-being. Of course, you won’t feel as attached to them as you did with Lee or Clementine, but you’ll still feel more for them than you do for most other video game characters – even if occasional graphical and technical glitches prevent you from fully immersing yourself Being able to immerse yourself in what is happening.

Each story also has its own gameplay style, which makes for a varied trip through Georgia with just the right pace. One vignette has you trying to quietly get past mysterious enemies without being detected, while another has you spending most of your time wandering around and talking to people, interacting with numerous characters and reminiscing about the Motor Inn Dig out season/season 1. In some moments, 400 Days overtly alludes to events from the original game, either through cameos or little nods to the choices you made there. The different gameplay styles fit together well and prevent the chapters from seeming like variations on the same content.

More important, however, is the impact this little game has on Staffel/Season 2. 400 Days is less of a bridge and is actually not a bridge between the two seasons, but rather a preamble to the second, although the ending could easily be a trailer for the coming episodes. Telltale even specifically states that the decisions you make in 400 Days will have a significant impact on Season 2, but we won’t know that for sure until it’s released. Even without this carrot on a stick, this DLC pack is worth playing through, because at the moment there is no better way to shorten the wait for the moment when the dead will walk the earth again, which won’t be for a few months .

PRO: Well written; interesting characters; varied gameplay; satisfying ending.

CONS: Quite short; glitches; waiting for season 2 to see what impact the decisions made will have.
