Things start to get more interesting in the second episode of Season 2 – it seems longer, more meaningful and more ambitious. Clementine’s new group is different from the previous one and you quickly realize how effeminate they have become after a few months of living in relative safety. It’s a different dynamic than the one you know from Season 1, in which Lee and Co. always had the feeling that they could never stay in one place for more than a few minutes and therefore rushed through the game world like driven people. The new characters almost seem as if they have forgotten what is going on in the rest of the world, and this innocence and ignorance almost becomes their undoing when they are confronted with new threats.

Clementine’s role has also changed. Although she is still a little girl whose opinion is rarely taken seriously, the people she is with now recognize how useful and helpful she is. She is no longer a burden, but rather the foundation of her group in many ways, which opens up interesting dialogue options throughout the episode. Your decisions have increasingly greater meaning and lead to branching paths, giving you the feeling that you are truly in control of the development.

Pros:

  • Illustrates some of the major themes and storylines of Season 2

  • Is just as emotionally powerful as the best moments of Season 1

  • Clementine’s character development is fascinating and complex

  • The plot mostly revolves around how Clementine treats and is perceived by the other people in the group, and this becomes increasingly interesting and detailed

  • You get the feeling that the gameplay is very subtle, the interpersonal things happen under the surface and don’t depend so much on the gameplay mechanics.

  • Good integration of the “400 Days” content from the time between Season 1 and Season 2

Cons:

  • Even for the Walking Dead There’s little in the way of classic adventure gameplay on offer here.

  • The other characters place far more value on Clementine’s opinion than is realistic when dealing with an eleven-year-old.
