Have you just downloaded GTA 5 for PC and want to play now? Then there could probably be problems at the moment, because the reports about the error “Unable to access Rockstar server” have been increasing in the last few hours and we are also currently affected by the error. The problem occurs when you have downloaded the new Grand Theft Auto 5 from Rockstar Games and then log in to the Social Club. While the login or registration usually goes through without any problems, we then received the above-mentioned error message in the form of “Unable to access Rockstar server.” Activating GTA V requires an internet connection. Please check your connection.” At first we thought it was simply a temporary outage due to server overload, but it’s been going on for a few hours now. So what do you do to fix the problem?

Unable to access Rockstar servers Error message: Is there a solution?

Since the error message appeared for us hours after installing GTA 5, we tried out some solutions from major platforms such as Reddit. Because we already know this much, thank God the error message “Unable to access Rockstar server” doesn’t just appear on us and it seems to be a current problem with the Rockstar servers. However, we tried many things like:

  1. Changed the Windows user name to only letters (which was also the cause of another problem).
  2. Almost everything .exe files from GTA like the GTA V Launcher or the Social Club started as an administrator
  3. All necessary ports are also activated in the router.
  4. Antivirus and firewall completely disabled.
  5. Reinitialized Steam cache or checked game files in Steam for errors

Update: Apparently it’s not Rockstar’s servers, but in this case it was actually the virus scanner, deactivating it wasn’t enough, just a complete uninstallation, see comments.

Since none of this helped and the error message is reported in many English forums, we’ll have to wait and hope that the servers get up and running again.
