Obi-Wan Kenobi being killed by Darth Vader – and thereby becoming far more powerful than we can imagine – is one of the defining moments of the star Wars Saga. He is so important to Luke’s development from farm worker to Jedi Knight. It is a chapter in the tragic story of Anakin Skywalker. But in the original script, the wise man wasn’t supposed to die at all.
Peter Mayhewthe actor who played Chewbacca, has repeatedly published pages from his original copy of the shooting script of the first one in recent months war of stars Films. It’s a real pleasure to see all the little differences – or to get proof that Han Solo really shot first. But his latest script page tweet reveals a bizarre almost-taken path that would have resulted in Obi-Wan surviving the duel with his former Padawan on the Death Star.

Here’s the full page detailing Obi-Wan’s survival – and Luke joining the fight with his own lightsaber to help Obi-Wan kill en masse Stormtroopers before the two heroes can escape:
Also interesting: On the pages describing the duel, Vader is referred to as a Sith – a word that never appears in the original trilogy, but only in the prequels.
Apparently Lucas ultimately decided on a different outcome to the duel – and thus created the star Wars Saga as we know it today. But what would have happened if Obi-Wan had survived the first film?
